Agrivoltaics

Agrivoltaics is the integration of solar photovoltaic (PV) technology into agricultural land, allowing farming and renewable energy generation to take place simultaneously. By incorporating solar infrastructure within working farmland, farmers and landowners can generate electricity without loss of land.

Electricity generated can then be used on site to power agricultural operations such as irrigation, ventilation or automation, or exported to the grid to create an additional revenue stream.

By combining agriculture with solar energy generation, agrivoltaics enables farms to:

  • Generate renewable electricity while maintaining productive farmland
  • Maximise land efficiency by producing energy and agricultural output on the same area
  • Reduce dependence on external energy sources, lowering operational costs and carbon footprint
  • Diversify income streams through on-site energy production and potential grid export
  • Enhance resilience by creating more stable growing conditions for crops and livestock
